At Atlanta Thrive, our mission is to empower parents to disrupt inequities in education and create a more equitable and prosperous future for all students. We strive to help build a community where every child has access to quality education, regardless of their background, ensuring they have the opportunities to succeed and break the cycle of poverty.

We envision a world where students experience a world class education, where they’re empowered, have options, and can lean on adults, family and educators to provide guidance and support of choosing their own paths aligned to their strengths and interests.

Theory of Change

When schools and families work together to define what should be happening for students, we can create pathways for a world class education together.

Our Story

Welcome to Atlanta Thrive, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering parents to disrupt the inequities in education.

Founded in 2018, our journey began with 30 dedicated parents who wanted better opportunities for their children and others in the community.

At the heart of our organization is Kimberly Dukes, an Atlanta native and mother of 10 children attending public schools in the city. As our Executive Director and Co-founder, she is a vocal advocate for improved education opportunities and remains committed to our vision of fairness and equality in education.

We believe in the power of parent engagement, so we actively reach out to parents, grandparents, teachers, and community members. With the support of 4,000 strong and dedicated parents in our database, we are extending our reach and fostering a sense of unity in our mission.

One of our key campaigns focuses on championing increased accountability metrics for Black and brown students in Atlanta Public Schools (APS). We firmly believe that no student should be overlooked or underserved, and our efforts to raise awareness are reflected in our remarkable outreach, having knocked on over 10,000 doors in the community.

Looking ahead, we envision a more equitable education system that empowers all students to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances. By advocating for fair opportunities and introducing better ways to track progress, we aim to level the playing field and positively impact the lives of students, their families, and the entire community.

We believe that access to quality education is essential for creating opportunities and breaking the cycle of poverty. Atlanta Thrive is steadfast in our pursuit of this transformative goal, and we invite you to join us in this empowering journey to shape a brighter future for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference and thrive as a community.

Take Action

We provide parents with a range of tools and resources that empower them with the necessary knowledge and skills to support and advocate for their children effectively.

Make it Personal

We fight for your children. You fight for our children. Let’s fight together.

Don't Back Down

We face challenges head-on. Period.

Rebuild the Village

We fellowship with parents, building a supportive framework to guide them in forming their own community. We cultivate a sense of family.

Believe in All Kids' Potential

We believe every child can learn in their own space and way.

Bring the Community Together

We understand collaboration is key, and solutions must include the community. That’s the only way this work will have legs to stand on.

Face Challenges Head On

We identify policies aligned with issues facing our schools and educate parents about creating an action plan to engage elected officials.

“The Atlanta Thrive has helped me advocate for my grandson. They showed me the ins and outs of the school system and how things work. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t know which path to choose for my grandson.”
